Garlic braids

Lynn’s experiences with growing, cleaning and braiding garlic … and associated preserving methods—frozen in oil and pickled with herbs in vinegar.

Final Louisville garlic harvest braided July 31, 2025

The last six braids of Broadleaf Czech garlic that I grew in Louisville hang under the garlic curing rack. It is a delight to finish the harvest. And the crop was good, with very few bulbs that had to be taken apart; none were discarded. Quite a delight.

When I return to the Monticello garlic workshop, I have a couple dozen plants to clean and braid.

Another delight is that all of the Louisville braids have been sold. That’s a first — the first time that the day I finished braiding, I sold the final braid. God is good. He provided a crop, the time and space to process it with my hands, and the people who wanted to enjoy it hanging on the wall in their kitchen and to cook with it.

“Your garlic braids look so pretty in my kitchen! I’m glad we were able to make the trade.”

“I love using this amazing garlic in my homemade focaccia.” Kathy
