Garlic braids

Lynn’s experiences with growing, cleaning and braiding garlic … and associated preserving methods—frozen in oil and pickled with herbs in vinegar.

Monticello Braids--order yours from these available 9 braids.

Revised August 24, 2025. In the Monticello garlic shop, I braided garlic that was grown in McKee Kentucky and in Wayne County. The “from the earth” look braids pictured here are available right now. This style braid celebrates the amazing roots of the garlic plant which can grow 8 feet into the ground to pull up nutrients and trace minerals into the plant. No wonder garlic is such a rich food for our bodies. If you are interested, please text 502-494-4052 and request the # that you would like (be sure to include your name and “Garlic Braid #_” so I won’t discard your text). If that braid is no longer available, with your permission, I will substitute another one that is similar to it. Please include whether pickup or delivery (in Monticello or Somerset).

During this current braiding session, I completed cleaning, braiding and bunching the Wayne County grown Music—roasting garlic— and Inchellium Red. The last three Music braids are available now. They had grown the hardneck scapes to maturity and their woody necks did not braid well. After the first try, I chose to bunch the remaining plants for the final two braids of this 2025 season. I also chose to design these with the clipped look that celebrates the bright whiteness of this porcelain type of garlic. Let me know if you like its simplicity. Text your order to 502-494-4052 ASAP. You can pick up or I will deliver to you in Monticello or Somerset Sunday or Monday, August 24 and 25, 2025.

If you are in Louisville, I’ll bring your order to you later this week. If you reside between Monticello and Louisville, it’s possible I could deliver to you during our commute this week. Text me right away so we can make arrangements.

That ends the 2025 garlic braiding. The workshops have been disassembled until next May and June. I have been sleeping in since I don’t have to braid by 7:00 each morning. And I’ll be thrilled when I’ve transferred these last braids from my walls to you to inspire you in your kitchen decor and delight your tastebuds in your culinary dishes.

I have one farmer in Taylorsville, KY willing to tend some of my seed crop this fall and I am happy to take on other growers. Please read Garlic Growers Needed blog for what you are committing to and your share of the harvest if you grow my seed. After reading that closely, text me 502-494-4052 if you want to plant and tend some of my Kentucky crop for this 2025-26 garlic growing season.
